- Digital Signage
- Screens that show images, videos, menus or information managed remotely through software.
- Digital Signage Software
- The program used to upload, schedule and publish content to screens, for example PosterBooking.
- CMS (Content Management System)
- The online dashboard where you manage signage content and screens.
- Cloud Based Digital Signage
- Signage managed over the internet, with no local server needed.
- Digital Signage Player
- The device that plays content on a screen, such as a Fire TV Stick, Android box or Raspberry Pi.
- Media Player
- Another name for a signage player. Many smart TVs have one built in.
- Signage Stick
- A small plug in device like the Amazon Signage Stick built for running signage on a TV.
- Playlist
- An ordered set of images and videos that loop on a screen.
- Loop
- Content that repeats continuously, the most common signage format.
- Scheduling
- Setting content to show at certain times or days, like a breakfast menu in the morning.
- Dayparting
- Splitting the day into periods with different content, common for menus.
- Screen Sync
- Playing content across several screens at exactly the same time.
- Video Wall
- Several screens arranged together to act as one large display.
- Portrait Mode
- A screen rotated vertically, popular for posters and menus.
- Landscape Mode
- The standard horizontal screen orientation.
- DOOH (Digital Out Of Home)
- Digital advertising screens in public places such as billboards, malls and transport.
- Kiosk
- An interactive touch screen for self service, ordering or wayfinding.
- Wayfinding
- Signage that helps people navigate a building or venue.
- Offline Playback
- Content that keeps playing when the internet connection drops.
- Commercial Display
- A screen built for long daily running hours, brighter and more durable than a home TV.
- Nits
- A measure of screen brightness. Window and outdoor signage needs high nits.
- 4K Signage
- Content and screens at 3840 by 2160 resolution for sharp detail.
- Proof Of Play
- Reports showing when and where content was played, used in advertising.
- White Label Signage
- Signage software resold under another company's brand.
- Reseller
- A company that sells signage software to its own customers.
- Narrowcasting
- Showing targeted content to a specific audience at a location.
- Widget
- A small live content block such as weather, clocks or social feeds. See widgets.
